Network Security Server First Boot

It is worth watching and understanding the boot process. Knowing the normal operations during this process will help you investigate any issues that are reported during the first boot. After you see the setup screens finish, you will be presented with a log in screen. The default username is admin in lowercase and the default password is also admin in lowercase. As you can see before admin can gain access to configure the appliance, there is a prompt to change your master admin password. This is achieved using the command ‘username admin password’ and then you type in your password. Now you’ve changed the main admin password. You will have to log out of the appliance and back in again for the new details to be recognized. To log out, issue the command exit and then log out by issuing the same exit command once more. Now you will be brought back to the log in screen where you can log back in as admin with a new password you have set. With the appliance change and logging back in as the admin, the appliance now treats you as a first time user and asks you to accept the end user license agreement so you may begin to configure the settings and then will prompt you to use the wizard for the initial configuration. The Jumpstart will step you through a set of dynamic questions and is the easiest way to set the initial configuration of the appliance. You’ll be asked to enter an activation code which will have been supplied in an email with a copy of your licenses if your appliance is a virtual appliance. For physical appliances there is no requirement for the activation code. You will have the opportunity to change the host name of the appliance as you’ve just changed the password of the admin you can just accept the default of the password question by hitting enter. You can accept the default shown in parentheses of any question in the same way. If you do not change the DHCP for the IP address then the next questions will be the IP address, the subnet mask and the gateway. Then follow the questions for the options including enable IR for compromise assessment, enable FE Net service, enable FE Net licence update service, enable NTP, enable IPv6, license key, security content updates and submission interface.
