Using Helix to Create a Custom HIPAA Dashboard

In this installment of the Tips and Insights series, Dan Lewandowski builds a custom HIPAA dashboard for use with your compliance team audits or other compliance related needs.

Hi I’m Dan Lewandowski Senior Systems Engineer here at FireEye. Today I am going to show you how to use Helix to build a custom HIPAA dashboard for use with your compliance teams audits or other compliance related needs. So the first thing we want to do is go to the dashboard’s dropdown and click on Custom. Go on the right side of screen and create dashboard. Here we’ll have to give it a name. In this case it will be HIPAA and the section of HIPAA that we’re going to be building this dashboard out for is 164.308. So we’ll put that in the title. We’ll type in a description.

So we know what this dashboard relates to later on. And then we can add our tags. Things like a HIPAA 164.308 so on.

After we’re done entering the tags go ahead and click on Create.

And there we have our dashboard. Want to add some widgets so we actually have some information showing. So click on Add Widget. Again add a title. In this case it’ll be ePHI Successful Logins by Timestamp. So enter that in.

Then again a description so we know what this widget is displaying. For this one will select the bar visualization type.

And then go over to the query tab were we can enter the query we want it to run.

And let’s change this to one week. And leave the width at one hundred. Go ahead and click on save.

And our first widget will populate here shortly.

Now we will want to add another widget. So once again to the Add Widget. Put in the title. This one will be ePHI Successful Logins by User Name. And then add your description. Like we did earlier with the first widget. In this case we want this one to be a pie chart. So select pie in our visualization type then head over the query tab. Once again we’ll do one week. Results five is good. And we’ll change that width to 50. And save. Perfect. Now we’ll go ahead and add the last widget. So again click on Add Widget. Let’s type in the title. In this case it is ePHI Successful Logins by Method. And the description again. And for this one we want to do pie again. So select the pie visualization. Head over to query. We’ll have this one be one week as well. Five results and the width at 50. And then enter our query.

And save. And there you go. So now we have three widgets pertaining to HIPAA 164 dash 308 in this dashboard.

And that’s how you use Helix to build a custom HIPAA dashboard Thanks for your time and stay tuned for more FireEye tips and insights. Thanks for your time and stay tuned for more FireEye tips and insights.
